1974: More than 120 combined years of naval history is about to end.

Abbot (DD 629) mothballed in the Philadelphia Navy Yard with Cotten (DD 669), Sigsbee (DD 502) and Sigourney (DD 643). Sigsbee was a kamikaze survivor and Cotten survived the Battle of Surigao Strait. Sigourney and Abbot sailed together several times.

Sigsbee was retired at the end of World War II and nearly 30 years later still had its wartime paint scheme and single mainmast. The others served into the 1960s and received tripod masts and large white hull numbers.

Within a few months, all four ships were scrapped.
