Abbot appears on a postcard (year of photo unknown) as part of the Project Mercury space mission recovery fleet in support of the first suborbital space flight, flown on 5 May 1961.

MR-3 was NASA’s designation for the Mercury-Redstone 3 “Freedom 7” mission with Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr..

Note the tripod mast, part of the post-war upgrade.

Curiously, the address side of the postcard is printed with Japanese post card formatting.
