USS Abbot envelope

Hand-painted sketch of Abbot with its 1950s tripod mast on an envelope postmarked on 2 February 1946 — well before the tripod mast was installed or even designed. Note the incorrect (and misspelled) reference to H.M.S. Charlestown, which was actually the fate of the original Abbot (DD 184) in 1940.

The back of the envelope says ‘John E. London USCS 4430’

USCS is the Universal Ship Cancellation Society, an organization of stamp collectors. The drawing is probably by USCS member Tom Morrissey in the 1990s, using an old envelope.
