Envelope canceled aboard Abbot in November 1943. On the day this envelope was canceled, Abbot was laid up at Pearl Harbor undergoing extensive repairs following the October collision with the aircraft carrier Cowpens. The censor’s initials “JB” belong to Lt. (j.g.) John L. Brewster, an Abbot officer. Herschel J. Bonnet entered the Navy in February 1943 and joined Abbot on commissioning day, 23 April 1943. He stayed aboard throughout its entire World War II tour, and left the ship in May 1946 as a Storekeeper First Class.
