Jan. 26, 1994 — Retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Marshall E. Dornin, 86, former superintendent of the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, died Saturday at a hospice in San Diego.

He was born in Berkeley, and he graduated from the Naval Academy in 1930.

He served aboard battleships, cruisers, destroyers, and auxiliary vessels. During World War II, he held several commands in the South Pacific, including that of the cruiser Des Moines.

From 1954 to 1956, Mr. Dornin was naval liaison to Congress. He also served as commandant of the Eleventh Naval District.

He was awarded the Bronze Star and other medals, including three decorations in the Legion of Merit.

Mr. Dornin is survived by his wife, Nova, of San Diego, and two daughters, Mrs. Michael Schoettle of Rolling Hills and Mrs. Arthur Varden of San Bernardino.
